Advanced Brake Technology by Bert J. Breuer, Uwe Dausend is a PDF Book for free download.
Access the latest and most relevant information concerning road vehicle brakes and brake systems with Advanced Brake Technology, a collection of papers culled from the last four years of TMD Friction's m Symposium, which annually brings together the world's top brake engineers in Bad Neuenahr, Germany.
Advanced Brake Technology is an essential addition to the brake professional's library, covering important brake-related issues. Anti-lock braking systems (ABS), new material technologies, brake-by-wire systems, future brake technologies: The most up-to-date details and developments concerning these hot topics are included in this comprehensive resource.
Editors Bert Breuer and Uwe Dausend clearly demonstrate the significance of Advanced Brake Technology and brake systems in the concluding paragraph of their introduction:
"The contents of this book demonstrate that brakes are still far from technical saturation, and contain promising potential for future enhancements to safety, economy, ecology and comfort in the transport of people and goods on roads."
Sections include:
Basics, Materials and Methods
Brakes and Brake Systems
Tests and Experiences
Future Aspects and Outlook

Introduction
Prof. Dr. B. Breuer, Dipl.-Ing. U. Dausend, Darmstadt University of
Technology Darmstadt, Germany
The technical purpose of brakes is to decelerate moving vehicles through the tire/road contact, to adapt their speed to traffic conditions, and to prevent their involuntary movement once stopped.
They transform kinetic energy into thermalenergy for storage in the brakes, followed by dissipation to the surrounding air, and must be able to exert sizable torques to the wheels even at standstill.
Peak powerlevels in emergency braking far exceed maximum engine power. Appropriate brake force distribution to the wheels in keeping with road surface conditions (eg.icy/dry) and braking stability (left/right and front/rear), adapted to the driving state of the vehicle (e.g. gradual speed change versus emergency braking), are vital for accident prevention.
