The Science of Vehicle Dynamics in pdf

The Science of Vehicle Dynamics: Handling, Braking, and Ride of Road and Race Cars 2014th Edition by Massimo Guiggiani is a PDF book for free download.

Vehicle dynamics is often perceived as a quite intuitive subject. As a matter of fact, lots of people are able to drive a car. Nevertheless, without a rigorous mathematical formulation it is very difficult to truly understand the physical phenomena involved in the motion of a road vehicle.

In this book, mathematical models of vehicles are developed, always paying attention to state the relevant assumptions and to provide explanations for each step.

This approach allows for a deep, yet simple, analysis of the dynamics of vehicles, without having to resort to foggy concepts. The reader will soon achieve a clear understanding of the subject, which will be of great help both in dealing with the challenges of designing and testing new vehicles and in tackling new research topics.

The book covers handling and performance of both road and race cars. A new approach, called MAP (Map of Achievable Performance), is presented and thoroughly discussed. It provides a global and intuitive picture of the handling features of a vehicle. Moreover, the book also deals with several relevant topics in vehicle dynamics that have never been discussed before.

From the Author

This book is not the translation of the Italian book "Dinamica del Veicolo". Actually, in some sense, this new book is totally different, with new topics and with new points of view for the topics covered in the Italian book as well.

Highlights:

1.     Neat definition of tire pure rolling

2.     No-roll centers and no-roll axis

3.     Lateral load transfers including tire vertical stiffness

4.     Principles of any differential mechanism

5.     The kinematics of cornering: Chapter 5

6.     Neat definition of the single track model

7.     Neat definition of the axles characteristic

8.     New handling approach called MAP (Map of Achievable Performance)

9.     Relationship between steady-state data and transient behavior

10.  New understeer gradient

11.  Handling of race cars: Chapter 7

12.  Handling surface (not diagram)

13.  New powerful and intuitive handling approach called MAP

14.  Neat discussion of the inerte

15.  VIP (Vehicle Invariant Point) to understand roll motion

16.  Neat tire brush model: Chapter 10

17.  Tire Action Surface

18.  Index of all mathematical symbols
